Things you shouldn’tclean with paper towelsUsing paper towels
Paper towels are everyday items, and nowadays we waste a lot of them. Here are some items where you can use sponges or reusable cloths instead of paper towels.
If you think about it for a moment, you’ll realize that most things can be cleaned with a sponge or cloth. In this section ofSelMagzwe provide tips on how to save paper towels.
Bathroom supplies
Don’t use paper towels to clean soap scum from your tub and shower as cloth towels are a better option. The best way to eliminate soap residue in the bathroom is to mixvinegarwith a detergent and then wipe with a clean cloth.Cleaning hands while cookingIt may seem simple to grab a sheet of paper towel to wipe your greasy hands, but don’t do it because the fibers from the paper towel can remain on your hands and get into your food.
Wear an apron while cooking; using an apron keeps paper towels handy and prevents your clothes from getting dirty. After washing your hands, you can wipe them on the apron and proceed with the next steps of cooking.
Carpets and rugs
Sometimes drinks like soda or tea accidentally spill on the carpet, but you shouldn’t use paper towels to clean it up as they can leave fibers on the carpet and won’t fully clean the stains. Instead, use a clean, dry cloth to absorb the liquid and let it dry, and then
vacuum it up.
The other problem with using paper towels is that the fibers sink deep into the carpet, making it difficult to vacuum later.Dusting dishesCleaning plates and glasses with paper towels is not a good idea, especially if they’ve been sitting unused in the cupboard for a while. Additionally, tiny particles from paper towels may stick to the dishes and later enter the digestive system, so use a damp cloth to clean plates or glasses.Dusting electronic screensDo not use paper towels to clean the screen of your TV, laptop, or even mobile phone. We also never recommend using paper towels on delicate glass surfaces like LCD or plasma TV screens because the fibers can leave permanent marks. It’s best to use a microfiber product and cloth designed specifically for these surfaces.
It’s important not to apply too much pressure when cleaning these screens, as it may damage the crystals inside the LCD.
Cleaning windows and mirrors
Paper towels do not effectively clean windows and mirrors, so it’s better to use professional microfiber cloths instead. Microfiber cloths provide excellent cleaning and are reusable. If you don’t have a cloth, newspaper or paper bags are good options since they don’t leave any lint behind.
Toilet
Paper towels are not effective at all for cleaning toilets; for better results, use approved toilet cleaners and standard bleach.
Cutting board
When cleaning stains like meat juices on a cutting board, do not use paper towels as they don’t absorb all the liquid completely, and the leftover fibers make it harder for you. Instead, use a clean, damp cloth with disinfectants to remove remnants.
Sunglasses
Paper towels can scratch your glasses and leave lint. We recommend using microfiber cloths to clean all types of
sunglasses
and prescription glasses.
