Royato: As we age, facial skin becomes loose, which is not just due to weakened facial muscles and decreased collagen and elastin production.
Another factor at play is the shifting of facial bones.
The good news is that there is a specific massage technique that helps restore the original position of the skull bones and improves blood circulation in the facial tissues. This massage is called Korugi.
Important Points
Muscle tension decreases over the years and fat is redistributed. When we are young, fat forms a uniform layer, but in older age, it accumulates in specific areas.
Before starting this massage, prepare a mirror and some massage oil. This will help you ensure you perform the exercises correctly and also prevent extra friction.
Your skin should be clean.
If you have ear, throat, or nose diseases, lymphatic system disorders, chronic skin injuries, or facial wounds, do not perform this massage.
It is important to rub and apply pressure to your face with the right intensity so that you feel no pain.
1. Cheek Lifting
Rest your elbows on the table. Make fists with your hands. Place them on your cheekbones, so your fingers are on your face. Your facial muscles should be relaxed. Stay in this position for 5 seconds.
2. Working on the Forehead
Lean your head back slightly. Make fists with your hands. Press the middle part of your fingers against the hairline on your forehead. While applying pressure, move your hands towards your temples and earlobes along the hairline. Then gently slide your fingers down your neck to your collarbones.
3. Smoothing the Cheeks
Clasp your hands together. Your thumbs should be straight as you will need the sides of them for this exercise.
Place the tip of your right thumb under your left eye and close to your nose. With a sliding motion and pressure on the skin’s surface, move your thumb towards your ear. Immediately after, glide your thumb towards your neck line—from your earlobe to your collarbone. Repeat the last part of this exercise twice.
Perform the same exercise on the right side of your face.
4. Smoothing the Forehead
Make fists with your hands. Place the middle part of your fingers just above your eyebrows and perform a rubbing motion towards the hairline. Now return your hands to the initial position but slightly to the sides and again perform an upward motion. This will smooth the entire forehead area.
5. Opening the Eyes
Make a fist with one hand. Raise your eyebrows. Using the middle part of your index and middle fingers, glide your hand along the eyebrow line.
6. Working on the Lower Face
Make a fist with one hand, keeping your index and middle fingers pointing upwards (but still bent). This move should be done with these two fingers.
Firmly push and pull the skin from your chin towards your temples. Start from the corners of your mouth. The distance between applying pressure and pulling should be minimal. A total of 7 to 8 movements should be performed.
7. Ending the Massage
Open your palms. Place your fingers on your forehead and gently slide towards your temples. Then, gently glide your fingers from your cheeks to your collarbones along your neck line.
For best results, perform this massage once a week.
