Due to the growth of the construction industry in Iran and the practical necessity of insulation in the country, the increasing need for the development of this industry has always been felt.Rock woolis a mineral insulation material made from natural minerals called basalt, which is a type of volcanic rock. This insulation falls under the category of thermal insulation and also has very high acoustic properties.
This insulation has many special features and offers numerous advantages compared to similar insulations such as glass wool and slag wool.
Compared to slag wool, rock wool has longer fibers, a longer lifespan, and a lower thermal conductivity; slag wool is made from waste from iron smelting, while rock wool is made from 100% natural basalt. However, the production process is similar for both types of insulation.
Rock wool has significant advantages over glass wool in almost all aspects such as sensitivity, thermal conductivity, useful life, sound absorption coefficient, environmental compatibility, material composition, fire resistance, and thermal tolerance point.
Isfahan Rock Wool Company offers a variety of rock wool products in Iran. The products of this company include:
-
Board rock wool
Board insulation rock woolWhat is it?
Uses:
– The main application of board rock wool insulation is in walls where we want to insulate against heat or sound.
The construction industry standards deem a 50 mm thick, 80 kg/m³ density board insulation suitable for residential building walls.
– This insulation is a sound-thermal insulation used in places with high noise levels, such as workshops, industrial areas, sound studios, cinemas, and conference halls, where a higher density insulation is utilized.
It is worth mentioning that this insulation achieves the best sound absorption coefficient at 150 kg/m³ density.
– In areas where thermal insulation is more crucial, the thickness is more important than the density. For example, if we want to insulate a furnace with board rock wool, depending on the heat produced and the temperature it needs to withstand, it is better to use this product up to 350 degrees Celsius, as the fibers are treated with resin, and the resin begins to lose its properties at consistently high temperatures above 350 degrees, becoming carbonized, which makes the fibers brittle and leads to deterioration. Therefore, it is advisable to use blanket insulation for insulating such furnaces where resin is not used. For further assistance, please contact our experts.
– In general, the best available insulation is air. The mechanism of rock wool captures air within it, so the more air is trapped (the greater the insulation thickness), the better the insulation performance.

Wire mesh blanket rock wool
The galvanized wire mesh blanket rock wool is sewn with flame-resistant thread to the raw wool without resin, ensuring that the wire mesh does not rust in contact with air and moisture, produced with 3/4 inch and 1 inch openings according to ASTM592 standards.
This insulation can be produced with one side mesh and the other side with aluminum foil or double mesh according to customer request.
- Quilted rock wool
Quilted or rolled rock wool insulation
There are generally 2 types of rolled insulation in the rock wool product category:
• Mesh blanket insulation or Isoblanket
• Quilted insulation or Fonofelt
- Pipe rock wool
Iso pipe or pipe rock wool, as the name suggests, is used to insulate various pipes. Depending on the type of pipe, its size, and the temperature of the fluid or gas inside, different thicknesses of this insulation are used. The density of this product ranges from 110 to 140 kg/m³, and production thickness ranges from 25 to 100 mm.
The pipe rock wool insulation is made from non-combustible mineral fibers, making it very strong and suitable for insulating hot water systems, steam pipes, air conditioning, central heating systems, solar systems, and drinking water pipes.
The purpose of pipe insulation with rock wool
1- To prevent or reduce damage to equipment from exposure to fire and corrosive environments (preventing decay)
2- Ensuring the stability of the pipes
3- Reducing CO2 emissions in some facilities
4- Protecting pipes from freezing
5- Preventing noise and heat loss
