To Improve Your Child’s Spelling and Writing Problems
Give Them Time:
If your child is experiencing spelling difficulties, do not punish or blame them. Instead, calmly give them more time and the opportunity to complete their assignments at a steadier pace, allowing them to correct their mistakes.
Encouragement Techniques for Overcoming Weak Spelling Issues
Encourage your child to use the computer. The computer allows children with dictation difficulties to organize their thoughts and also teaches them to use letters separately before combining them. However, note that using a keyboard may be difficult for these kids initially.
Don’t Have High Expectations:
Your elementary child has just become familiar with writing words, so don’t expect them to always spell correctly. Also, some kids learn faster than others; therefore, do not compare your child to others and set realistic and moderate expectations based on their abilities.
Increase Repetition and Practice:
Accept that your child may need more practice than some other children. For their success, have frequent practice sessions and increase your patience, as these actions greatly impact student learning.
Teach Your Child the Correct Grip of the Pen:
You need to teach your child how to properly hold a pen. They should place the pencil between their thumb and index finger, holding it from the sharpened end, and use thinner pencils since their fingers and hand muscles are small.
Dictate to Your Child Every Night:
Every night, dictate to your child and ask them to correct their writing using a book to understand their errors and practice them. Alternatively, after dictating, you can correct their spelling mistakes and give them a chance to write the corrections again. To encourage your child to write, use various colorful papers and different writing tools like pencils, pens, crayons, chalk, etc.
Provide a Text for Them to Find Incorrect Words:
Select a page from their textbook and type it with numerous spelling mistakes. Then provide this text so they can find the errors to improve their spelling skills.
Write a Faint Text for Them to Highlight:

Learning through play and activity is easier for children. For example, ask your child to write the word you want in the yard with water or set up a board where they can write words using chalk and then ask them to jump on the letters to complete the word.
Be Careful in Choosing the Spelling Text:
The selected text should contain sentences, and avoid choosing words in isolation. It should not include words that are outside the scope of their textbooks, and the words forming the sentences in the text should consist of letters that have already been taught. Also, include words that were previously difficult for the child in the next spelling session.

First, read the dictation text to the students, then give them the dictation. After correcting it, return it to the students and ask them to practice the correct spelling of the mistakes in their dictation for the next session. In the following session, the text will be dictated again.
Dictate Spelling at the Blackboard:
Bring some students to the board and ask them to write the words so others can learn as well.
Teach Similar Sound Letters:
To teach similar sound letters such as (ص- ث- س), first write the desired words on the board, for example, the word ((Soap)). Then cover the letter (ص) and ask the students to choose one of the three letters (س، ث، ص) to complete the word. Once they complete it, show the full word so they can correct if they guessed incorrectly and write the correct letter next to it.
Ask the Student to Correct Their Dictation:
As homework, ask students to correct their dictation using their books to understand their errors.
Enhance Your Child’s Spelling through Touch:
Ask your student to carefully observe the desired word written on the board and then write the word in the air mentally using their finger. Then, use it in an appropriate sentence to better understand the meaning of the word.
Then erase the word from the board and give the student the chance to write it from memory without errors.
